Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the development and coordination of complex mobile home park (MHP) project planning and design for the additions and modifications to company gas and electric distribution facilities from onset through completion of project. Confers with various internal departments such as Design & Construction Management, Gas Technical Services, Engineering, Environmental Services etc. to ensure all planning and design standards are met and best practices are incorporated. Responsible to mentor, coach and review designs of contractors/Customer Project Planners. Assist MHP owners with applications and design consulting for gas and electric load projections.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently manages several concurrent projects, assignments and activities. Continually refines and establishes lessons learned and best practices, and provides input through refinement of processes and procedures in support of the MHP Planning and Design Job Aide.
  • Mentors and provides necessary training, coaching and/or design review for design contractors and peers within the department. May conduct meetings or presentations at department team or project meetings to providing training/overview regarding design standards, procedures, practices, and takes an active role to resolve planning and design related issues.
  • Responsible for selection of gas and electric service locations and creating a preliminary meter location map and services worksheet in order to identify all applicable service locations, meter sizes, load requirements, etc.
  • Creates necessary work order levels within SAP to ensure proper charging/accounting, creates service orders, gas handling plans, and provides Project Manager with the necessary information in support of fusing requests, engineering calculations, pre-requisites, etc.
  • Ensures that all gas and electric designs for assigned projects are in compliance with applicable Company standards, tariffs, and guidelines, and all applicable jurisdictional requirements.
  • Serves as a consultant regarding complex design issues. Possesses and communicates specialized knowledge relevant to creation of electric and gas distribution designs. Interacts with the customer or contractor on an as needed basis to progress the design and resolve technical questions and issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Business, engineering, or related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • 5 years – Related experience in electric and gas design.
  • 5 years – Proficiency in O-Calc, DPSS, CISCO, PLS-CADD.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience in SAP.
  • Has thorough understanding of: business practices, job processes, engineering principles, company Overhead, Underground and Gas Standards, Design Manual, Service Planning Manual, Service Guide and CPUC Rules and tariffs, and has the conceptual and analytical ability to use the knowledge to ensure safe, efficient, cost-effective, and compliant designs.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to expedite jobs and quickly solves issues for all customers.
  • Demonstrates leadership and innovative thinking when reviewing designs and mentoring other colleagues, contractors, designers.
  • Demonstrates a strong focus on teamwork and achieving department and corporate goals. Possesses the strong ability to effectively interact with various team members and maintain open lines of clear and effective communication.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills individual must have the ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical concepts and issues with various types of audiences including internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Self-managed worker.
  • Requires a valid CA driver’s license, as field meetings will be required to effectively perform job duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience in Procore.
  • Experience as a Customer Project Planner.

Other Qualifications:

  • Travel throughout SDG&E’s service territory will be required.
  • Non-Commercial CA Class D Drivers License required.
  • Rare evening and weekend work may be required.
