Primary Purpose:

Maintain, calibrate, test, and repair plant instrumentation and control to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Palomar and Ramco power plants.


Job Duties: 

  • Maintain, calibrate, test, and repair plant instrumentation, control systems and regulated continuous emissions monitoring equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of the San Diego Generation power generation assets.
  • Perform routine trouble shooting activities including those involving Low Voltage (<600VAC/<150VDC) systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM’s) on I&C equipment and systems. Assist in developing PM procedures.
  • The I&C Technician will be required to travel to multiple San Diego Generation assets and perform maintenance as required.
  • Implement plant improvements and modifications as assigned.
  • Provide documentation of work performed, supplies used, and other items that will be required to plan and control maintenance activities. Prepare records and reports as required. Verbally report any unusual conditions to plant supervisory personnel.
  • Utilize the plant computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for maintaining the maintenance history, generating work orders, work requests and managing spare parts. -Assist in review of I&C spare parts inventory as required to cost effectively minimize equipment down time and assure high plant availability. Receive, unload, and correctly store parts and supplies in the plant.-Work call-outs on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform house-keeping tasks to maintain a clean, safe work environment and professional appearance.
  • Perform emergency callout trouble response calls for critical equipment repairs.
  • Perform extended work hours for consecutive days during heavy maintenance periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A high school diploma as a minimum.  Trade school or other formal training highly desirable.
  • A minimum of five years of industrial I&C experience.
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to read and interpret P&ID instrumentation drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of appropriate process testing instruments and basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound and work in adverse weather.
  • Requires the ability to safely use, handle, inspect, and perform maintenance in close proximity to sources of equipment containing hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals and hazardous wastes as those terms are defined under various safety and environmental regulations. The position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazards identified above.
  • This position requires the ability to perform corrective and preventative functions with little supervision.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and use other safety equipment as required. Must be able to frequently; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, walkways and man-lifts at elevations of 100 feet or more; crawl through confined areas; correctly wear and work using half-mask respirator; lift a minimum of 20lbs in awkward positions and 50lbs from the floor to the waist
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a hearing test as required to work in a power plant environment.
  • Should possess basic computer skills and be familiar with Windows programs.
